Risk of HBV Reactivation Low in DMARD Users (CME/CE)

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation was unlikely in patients receiving disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) whose HBV infection had resolved, according to a meta-analysis. The rate of HBV reactivation was substantially higher in patients with chronic HBV infection without antiviral prophylaxis. Among patients with resolved HBV infection, the rate of reactivation was similar between patients receiving tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors, non-TNF biologic agents, and nonbiologic DMARDs, reported Daniel Solomon, MD, MPH, of Harvard Medical School in Boston, and colleagues.
